DIY sample kit and my first experience with wall stickers

I first found out about the sample kit coming my way through a notification by the courier services. I hadn't read about the contents of the sample kit when I received it, but boy! was it an amazing surprise! I distinctly remember it was a taxing day when I received the package in green. I hurriedly cut it open and out came a splash of designs, colors, and paper.

This was such a pleasant surprise, that I felt this would be a great present for future house-warming, re-decorating or kids' birthdays. A package full of differently shaped stickers can transport anyone into their creative and imaginative childhood.

The first sticker that popped out for me was my name sticker. Perhaps, all the more because I didn't know the contents of the package beforehand, this sticker was particularly special for me.

Testing the waters

I started out with the magnet, shining proudly on my fridge. I then moved on to try the test decal- it was easy enough. I put it on one of the shelves of my bookrack.

The namesake

And then I couldn't wait to put on the sticker I was most excited about- my name sticker. After a lot of brainstorming, I decided that the space that best represents me, and that I can call my own, is my tiny closet. So I rushed to put the decal on my closet door.

The sticker was shiny golden, artistic in design, and evoked the imagery of a garden through the butterfly and floral cuts. Although really beautiful, it wouldn't leave its comfortable paper home that easily. Only after pressing the paper a few times did the entire decal come out in one go.

Creating light and shadow with patterns

The next one that I was excited to try out was the one with triangular patterns. It was a bit difficult to take out despite numerous tries because of the pattern. I finally managed to take that out despite some hitches. The moment I saw the patterns, I knew exactly where to apply these. I have this serene view of a garden and nature from my glass window.

However, the glass appears really bare and begs for some design in it. I had tried painting it before but it didn't work out. However, the triangular and block pattern of this decal made it the perfect choice for a play of light and shadow. So now, without hindering my beautiful garden view, the decal adds a new dimension to the window.

In the evenings, it shows a beautiful reflection. Not only that, the shadows that it creates due to sunlight and moonlight are too delightful and pleasing to the eyes, but they cannot be truly captured through the lens.

Animal love

Next the Minoo decal was fairly abstract to just apply it plainly. So I decided to be a little creative with it. I cut up its cute face to make an even cuter face with big puppy-ish eyes. The best place for this decal, therefore, was my shelf for art and craft supplies. It now looks cutely at me whenever I need some creative inspiration.

Fish and… err.. eggs

Finally I got the fish decal, the only decal that I wasn't very excited about because it looked childish. The eggs within the fish were, in particular, a little disconcerting. So I decided to put the decal on the multipurpose shelves in the guest room- something to make the space more child-friendly for my little cousins who keep visiting. However, it was the easiest to apply.

Envy of all eyes

The sample kit decals gave a brand new dimension to elements/nooks in my room, giving it a much needed perky change, without putting hours of effort.

Seeing these decals have made not just my friends, but even the neighborhood aunties envious. Everyone wants to find out where I got these from. My friends are especially jealous of the personalized name decal. My ideas have stimulated others to redesign their windows and shelves as well.

These decals have encouraged me to alter the look of other parts of my house as well… particularly the washrooms and the kitchen, which are often neglected as design prospects. I give my heartfelt thanks to WallDesign for giving me this wonderful little treasure
